About the label
In 2024, I released my album "Tin Corazón" after a decade-long hiatus from writing and recording music. The album was released under my independent label imprint, Electric Chololand Records, which is what I jokingly called my home studio (AKA my living room). For me, Electric Chololand was a vehicle for the creative freedom I always dreamt of having in the studio. There were no rules in making my album. I just let the songs evolve through the refinement process trusting that they would eventually mature into something that selfishly made me proud. That was the philosophy behind the label. And I never could have imagined that it would ever grow beyond my art. But sometimes the journey takes us to places we never would have imagined.
One evening while having drinks and bantering about artistic philosophies and musical journeys with my colleagues Joshua Josué and James Jones we started to discuss what it meant to be a Chicano rock musician. This was an important moment because it's something we all shared. Country music comes with a LOT of rules, and we didn't follow them closely enough to be accepted as country musicians. The term "Americana" is every bit as generic as "Alternative" was in the 90's. And if you have a Spanish name, booking agents assume you play Tejano music. So where does that leave us? And how do we gain visibility as Chicano Musicians in the Pacific Northwest?
And with that, Electric Chololand Records LLC became a reality.
I launched Electric Chololand as an independent record label in Portland to empower Chicano rock artists with the creative freedom they deserve. The label is a space where Chicano musicians can explore their sound, share their stories, and celebrate a heritage steeped in defiant creativity without compromise. It's about amplifying authentic voices, building community, and keeping culture alive through unfiltered, unapologetic rock.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
